August 10, 2021 - Dogs make everything better, even hormones and hot flashes. Several of our hotels and resorts are dog friendly. And at Six Senses Douro Valley, our hostess Aqua is always happy to keep you company on a daily forest walk.
Dogs are a secret weapon for coping with menopause. Firstly, our four-legged friends love a morning walk. Walking at a brisk pace is a great calorie burner and may also help with mood swings, because aerobic exercise can help fight depression and anxiety – both of which are common menopause symptoms – and promote psychological and physical va-va-voom. Getting into a routine can also enhance your sense of control. At Six Senses, there is no reason why your vacation should break that routine, as you can bring your best friend with you.
Think of a fairy tale manor house, a 100-year-old forest, and a tower, all set in the oldest demarcated wine region of the world!
The Douro Valley in Portugal offers many dog-friendly activities, starting with plenty of walking trails through the beautiful hotel gardens. Your guide can lead you on the best routes to suit your fitness level for a half-day or shorter morning exploration.
Settle in at one of our secret spots to enjoy food prepared specifically for you by your chef, paired with the region's best wines. Along the river, in the vineyards or woods, the hardest decision of the day will be which spot to choose.
Stay in our Vineyard Garden Suite located in an exclusive wing of our hotel and enjoy a separate bedroom, living and dining areas with a generously sized bathroom on the inside, and a terrace with a hot tub and day bed overlooking the surrounding vineyards on the outside.
Forgot to pack your dog? Not a problem. Aqua, our gentle and athletic hotel dog, adopted us a few years ago and is always ready to keep you company. She came to our attention when we spotted her snooping around the property looking for food. She quickly felt at home (who doesn’t love our five-star treatment?) and greeted everyone with a smile. Yet each night, she disappeared. Weeks went by until the General Manager decided to investigate further, following her one night to see where she went. She led him to a local GPAR (Associação Grupo De Proteção De Animais Da Régua) animal shelter. And so, another chapter of this story begins: the sustainability team contacted the GPAR association, and a beautiful partnership began. Aqua was formally adopted by one of our resort directors and she is now living happily ever after with us and our guests. We hope you fall in love with this magical dog when visiting Six Senses Douro Valley as quickly as we have!
Six Senses Uluwatu is set atop a rugged cliff in Pecatu, close to the island’s famous temple and namesake, one of six believed to be Bali’s spiritual pillars. The Cliff Villas offer uninterrupted views of the ocean, a separate living room and area for dining, and a garden attached to the sun deck with an outdoor pool and hot tub.
Your Guest Experience Maker can suggest a range of activities to discover Uluwatu’s cultural and natural attractions with your four-legged friend. Our ambassadors @supertripawsome recently gave their five* stay the paws up!
There is also a plethora of facilities for you to reclaim your relaxation, including a yoga pavilion, 10 spa treatment rooms, sauna and steam room, consultation room, whirlpool, 24/7 state-of-the art fitness center, Alchemy Bar to craft your own natural body care products, and of course the retail space, where you can shop local handicrafts, aromatherapy, yoga items, and spa products. You’re surrounded by the tranquil sound of flowing water.
May we suggest Kundalini Massage followed by a private singing bowl guided nap?
