New discoveries on Megalonisos

June 7, 2023 - Sun-kissed and sleepy, Six Senses Megalonisos will blend unobtrusively into the contours of a white-sand bay. On offer at our new hotel in Greece will be our signature range of out-of-the-ordinary experiences to stimulate, energize and restore.

Undiscovered by even the Greek Gods

Unlike the island of Evia that was said to have been separated from mainland Greece by a strike from Poseidon’s trident, the tranquil and secluded Megalonisos has been left by history and mythology to snooze in the sun. It’s one of the 10 Petalioi islands and islets that are home to some of the finest undiscovered beaches in the “Greek Maldives.”

“Six Senses Megalonisos offers a unique opportunity to step foot on a Greek island that even the Gods left undiscovered,” says Neil Jacobs, CEO of Six Senses. “We look forward to welcoming our guests with emotional hospitality that encompasses pioneering wellness, sustainability, and meaningful experiences.”

Tuning in and venturing out

Occupying a stunning position on a southerly white-sand cove, the 75 guest villas plus 20 branded residences will be just steps from a range of out-of-the-ordinary experiences to stimulate, energize and restore. The sheltered bay is protected from prevailing winds making it an ideal location as a mooring site for yachts and sailboats. Plentiful diving opportunities in the clear turquoise waters and uninterrupted hiking trails in undisturbed landscapes make Megalonisos a dream destination for nature lovers.

It is also easy to take a day trip to Athens. This adds to the appeal of exploring everything from Greece’s cultural heritage – the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Parthenon, and Temple of Olympian Zeus, to name just a few – to its abundant fine dining and street food scene.

Sensory perfection

Expect trademark Six Senses experiences, including Sleep, Eat, and Grow With Six Senses, the Alchemy Bar, Earth Lab, and Integrated Wellness, to make sure you leave feeling like the god or goddess you really are!

Our three restaurants will focus on locally inspired cuisine and include all-day dining, a beach bar and grill, and a specialty sunset bar. There will also be a pastry café, perfect for a coffee after a morning dip or sun salutation, along with a boutique.

The 1,700 square-meter Six Senses Spa will offer multiple treatment rooms, including four double sensory suites, a Watsu for a range of hydro therapies, and a Hammam for a warm herbal steam and body scrub.

Sustainability at heart

Partnering with Grivalia Hospitality, one of the most significant investors in Greece's ultra-luxury hospitality sector, we have committed to supporting Greece's shifting approach towards sustainable and responsible tourism practices. We’ll achieve this by ensuring the highest eco-credentials in terms of energy, materials, and operations, beginning with the installation of a solar electric farm.

With a target opening date set for the end of 2027, Six Senses Megalonisos will be accessed by private boat from Rafina port (a 16-kilometer, 30-minute drive from Athens International Airport), or from the ports of Marmari or Karystos on Evia.

This month, we’re announcing not one but two new island openings … find out what we’re up to at Six Senses Comino
