The magic behind the brand

July 23, 2019 - To mark Travel + Leisure readers voting Six Senses as World’s No. 1 Hotel Brand for the third year running, CEO Neil Jacobs thanks our hosts for creating the magic behind each meaningful guest experience. We hope you agree!

Six Senses has been named the #1 Hotel Brand in the Travel + Leisure 2019 World’s Best Awards. We’re humbled by the fact that so many readers of this influential travel magazine in the US rated Six Senses as their top brand for the third consecutive year for our commitment to wellness, sustainability and fun and quirky way of doing things.

A meaningful brand is at the heart of any thriving business. It is what people connect to more than any product. So, this win is a huge tribute to all our hosts and owners around the world and the way they continue to offer our loyal guests exceptional experiences that help them reconnect mentally, physically and spiritually. It also gives us the courage to push beyond the boundaries, to be bold and different, act on our imagination, create more than just places to stay and stand for something.

The Six Senses brand unites a diverse, multinational and multicultural portfolio of properties, with each host bringing the values to life in their own way.

For Six Senses Wellness Director Tamara, wellness is the feeling of being well in your body, mind and spirit: “Wellness is embraced in our work and also by keeping my team rested and health conscious during their working week. Ensuring they can give guests the best experience and advice by following it themselves. I always try to keep things light hearted and find something fun and meaningful for people to do. One little gesture is to make guestroom decorations that spell out ‘welcome back’ or ‘happy birthday’ out of little red seeds that have fallen from the trees.”

Assistant Reservations Manager La-Ongkhae Khansri understands how having a positive attitude at work creates a cheerful environment. “The reservations team is the guest’s first communication with the resort and the first impression is very important. I make sure that my communication varies depending on their need or personality in order to make the conversation more comfortable and not too rigid. Having a positive attitude also creates a synergy between the team who’s always ready to break into a spontaneous dance between calls #BeatOfficeSyndrome.”

Spa Therapist Rathinam believes wellness and sustainability are fundamental to the whole team. “I make drinks for my team with aloe plant and lime juice to take care of digestion and also encourage everyone to practice yoga and meditation to take care of the mind. At the same time I take care of nature and our garden. We also want to celebrate the world for guests and hosts, marking a birthday or anniversary with a surprise or something to make them happy.”

The August issue of Travel + Leisure is out now! It marks the 24th edition of World’s Best, with hundreds of thousands of respondents rating hotel brands on their locations, rooms and facilities, food, service, and overall value. With a monthly circulation of 950,000 and 6.7 million readers, the publication, which first hit newsstands in 1937, promotes the survey from November through March via the print magazine, tablet editions, newsletters, social media and website.
