The power of positive intentions

November 23, 2023 - Six Senses Kyoto will open its doors in spring 2024, in a prime downtown location. Ancient culture and genuine hospitality fuse with smart wellness and feel-good spa treatments for a sensuous and enticing escape.

Located in the historic Higashiyama district, Six Senses Kyoto is just steps away from a heady mix of Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, palaces, and tea houses. Let our expert guides take you on personalized adventures to age-old temples and through Kyoto’s vibrant and colorful markets, or set off on a solo trip to unearth the stories that shape this ancient city and offer a taste and flavor of quintessential Japanese culture.

Ignite your light

Your urban sanctuary is surrounded by a kaleidoscopic visual feast of traditional Japanese architecture, beautiful cherry blossoms, and cedar-topped mountains. But step inside Six Senses Kyoto and the bustle melts away as you embark on a wellness journey like no other.

As Six Senses Kyoto Wellness Director Ayako Fukuda elaborates, “Kyoto is home to a liberal sprinkling of evocative temples and shrines. They are places that the local community visit to set positive intentions. At Six Senses Kyoto, we’re harnessing that energy to lift hearts and ignite spirits.”

She goes on to say, “We want to create a spark of energy in our wellness offering. Take our spa menu, where our highly-skilled therapists are inspired by omakase-style dining to create menus just for you and according to the seasons, and weave these elements into a personalized treatment plan, setting guests on a healthful path towards inner and outer well-being.”

Inner bliss, outer serenity

We’ve incorporated smart science, traditional healing, and Japanese Zen culture into a unique wellness experience that offers an array of rejuvenating treatments and programs deeply rooted in Kyoto's culture and community.

After an action-packed day soaking up the city’s delights and highlights, how utterly blissful it is to put yourself into healing hands for 90 minutes? You’ll step out of Six Senses Spa floating on clouds.

Our traditional male and female bathhouses – our take on the typical neighborhood bathhouse – cocoon guests in a variety of cold and warm ripples, sauna, and steam, and the watery delights of Japanese bathing extend to an indoor pool and Watsu.

The weekly calendar of classes and activities will include yoga, meditation, and aerial yoga. There’s also a state-of-the-art gym, Alchemy Bar where you can blend local fruits and herbs into spa products, and Recovery Lounge for quick biohacks such as jetlag recovery, compression massage, and facial therapies. It’s the perfect place to carve out some “me time,” either to recover from your journey before delving into the city’s delights or after a busy day exploring.

Good mood food

Kyoto is renowned for its afternoon tea traditions and Six Senses Kyoto is inviting you to have a special seat at the table. But, of course, it wouldn’t have the magic of a Six Senses experience if we didn’t put our own twist on it. As Six Senses Kyoto General Manager Nicolas Black teases, “Afternoon tea, Six Senses Kyoto style, is going to have a fun, quirky, and out-of-the-ordinary element to it. We don’t want to give too much away just yet, but you can expect a fermentation spin amongst many other delicious treats.”

We’ve taken the Eat With Six Senses philosophy and created multi-sensory culinary experiences at our relaxed all-day dining restaurant and counter-top sushi restaurant with options to eat indoors or out under clear skies. Take the meandering garden path to the cocktail lounge and bar and finish your evening with a European or Japanese cocktail. The saké-infused beverage is not to be missed. Kanpai!

Time to drift off

You’ll drift off in one of 81 thoughtfully designed guest rooms and suites, all arranged to maximize space and privacy, with interiors blending authentic Japanese traditions with clean lines, earthy color palettes, and meticulous attention to detail. Ingeniously arranged to offer views of the peaceful central courtyard, the gardens of the neighboring Toyokuni Shrine, or the seductive city panorama of treetops, temples, tea shops, and rooftops, you’ll get to feel in the heart of the action while remaining nicely tucked away.
